The Secret Closet Part 1
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to
be seen by men. I tell you the truth;
they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room,
close the door and pray to your father, who is unseen. Then your father, who
see what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:5-6
Our Lord Jesus guiding us into the liberty of
worship to the Father, He gave us a free principle. He said, “When you pray, go
into your room, close the door and pray to your father, who is unseen.” This
would only mean two things,
1. Shutting
ourselves in alone with God in prayer
2. Shutting
the world out that is to withdraw from all thoughts, anxieties and concerns for
the day. Why? Because, when we worship
God with our thoughts and anxieties in mind then we cannot be in tuned to Him
because He is Spirit. When we close the world out, we come face to face with
God’s presence and realize his most powerful and amazing presence. We stay all alone
with God.
Being alone in His presence will give us a personal encounter
with greatness of God and full assurance of coming before His throne at any
time.
Simple to say, the disciples of Jesus had been with
Him, and seen Him pray. They had
learnt to associate the connection
between His wondrous life in public, and His secret life of prayer. And this compelled them to ask the saviour to
teach them how to pray. It is important to note that they didn’t ask Jesus to
teach them how to perform miracles but how
Andrew
Murray Everyone must have some solitary spot where
he can be alone with his God. Every
teacher must have a schoolroom. We have
learnt to know and accept Jesus as our only
teacher in the school of prayer.
He has already taught us at Samaria
that worship is no longer confined to times and places; that
worship, spiritual true worship, is a
thing of the spirit and the life; the
whole man must in his whole life be worship in spirit and truth. And
yet He wants each one to choose for himself the fixed spot where He
can daily meet him. That inner chamber, that solitary place, is
Jesus' schoolroom. That spot may be anywhere; that spot may
change from day to day if we have to
change our abode; but that secret place there must be, with the quiet time in which the pupil
places himself in the Master's
presence, to be by Him prepared to worship the Father. There
alone, but there most surely, Jesus comes to us to teach us to pray.
Lord, May all the glory be to your son Lord Jesus. Please guide us into deeper intimacy with you. May you lead us into a secret closet, to encounter your presence individually as your fresh anointing fall upon us. All these i pray in Jesus Name.
