ALONE WITH GOD; SECRET CLOSET PART 2
Prayers hold a high place among the exercise of a spiritual life and maintaining it. For effective prayer, sin must be put out of the way for we cannot have any communication with the Lord when sin reigns between us and Lord. Sin must first be dealt with. “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save ; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear : but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:1-2
In as much as we may be prayerful, it is noteworthy that prayer is not an acceptable substitute for obedience to the Lord’s command. The Lord of hosts makes it undeniably clear that sacrifice or any offering must be accompanied by obedience; obedience is better than sacrifice. “ … Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” 1Samuel 15:22-23( kjv)
So to begin with, a holy life can never exist without a closet, a Christian spending most of the time before the presence of God will stand out to maintaining a perfect spiritual life. Our master painted to us the way of and the secret of a closet. It immerged out clearly that the secret of praying to the father who is unseen is praying in the secret. The scriptures records in Luke 22 from verse 39 “….as was His custom…” verse 41 “ And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down and prayed.”
As was His custom, Jesus withdrew from the crowd to seek the Lord on His Knees earnestly. And even His disciples were amazed at the kind of prayer life Jesus was leading. They desired to learn and they asked the Lord only one thing; How to pray. They didn’t even bother to ask the Lord to teach them how to perform miracles, cast out demons or even to speak in tongues.
They knew
that there was a secret behind Jesus’s success. The Lord’s response was
stunning, He said, “And when thou
prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are : for they love to pray
standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen
of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou
prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door,
pray to thy Father which is in secret ; and thy Father which seeth in
secret shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:5-6 The implication of Jesus was clear; The
secret of praying is praying in secret.
It was also touching that Jesus prayed short
prayers while in the public and when He was alone with God, it was definitely a
different story. He could spend hours and hours or even the whole night in communion with God
From Mathew 6:7 Jesus said, “But when ye pray, use not vain
repetitions, as the heathen do : for they think that they shall be heard for
their much speaking.” What could have
our Master meant? He wanted us to go
straight to the point and tell God what we want. The scriptures validates that
majorly the prayers that had immediate response
were those prayed briefly. Take for
example, The tax collector’s prayer was, “God
be merciful to me a sinner!”
The thief on the cross also prayed a short
prayer, “Lord, remember me when though
comest into thy kingdom!”
Peter’s prayer was; “Lord, save me, or I perish!”
Christ prayer on the Cross was, “ Father, forgive them for they Know not what
they do”
"True prayer is
measured by weight,-not by length. A single groan before God may have more
fullness of prayer in it than a fine oration of great length." C. H.
Spurgeon
It’s not a matter of what we pray that moves God, it’s the weight
and faith implied that will touch the heart of God. There is a great difference
between saying prayers and praying.
Mostly when we pray we have our minds filled with our own
will and it’s as if people are only praying for the confirmation of whatever they already have on mind.
A true prayer will
let submission have its course and we are only to be ready to accept God’s
will.
May God bless you all brothers and Sisters as we watch and
prepare for the appearance of Our Master
and King; LORD JESUS CHRIST
Shalom and may peace of God be with you.
