TAMING THE TONGUE
There’s another spiritual responsibility we often overlook. It’s an intimate, unpleasant, and exhausting duty—Taming the toungue. As Christians, we should watch over things we say and whatever proceeds from our lips and mouth. Jesus warns us in Matthew 12:36-37 that we shall give account for every useless word that we ever spoken,
" But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
The same tongue used to glorify God should not be used to speak vain words or immorality. whatever is set a part for the Lord is to remain Holy and therefore is the tongue. life and death are in the power of the tongue.
James the half brother of Jesus, while writing to the world wide body of Christ, he tackles the key and most important aspect in the body of the church about the tongue.
"My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look
also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce
winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot
desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
